Leiomyosarcoma diagnostic criteria

Based on WHO 2022 Tumors of the Female Genital Tract.

1. CONVENTIONAL- SPINDLE CELL LEIOMYOSARCOMA

2 or more of the following

  • Marked cytologic atypia
  • Tumor cell necrosis
  • >= 10 mitosis / 10 HPF (High power field) OR >= 4 mitosis/mm2

2. EPITHELIOID LEIOMYOSARCOMA


1 or more of the following

  • Moderate to severe cytologic atypia
  • Tumor cell necrosis
  • >= 4 mitosis / 10 HPF (High powers field) OR >=1.6 mitosis/mm2

3. MYXOID LEIOMYOSARCOMA

1 or more of the following

  • Moderate to severe cytologic atypia
  • Tumor cell necrosis
  • >= 1 mitosis / 10 HPF (High power field) OR > 1 mitosis/mm2
  • Infiltrative borders/ irregular margins.
