NEET SS Oncopathology preparation is often undertaken alongside demanding responsibilities. Many candidates preparing for the examination are residents or fellows, and some are also preparing simultaneously for other postgraduate examinations such as FRCPath. Because of these constraints, preparation strategies tend to prioritise feasibility, repeatability, and relevance to the examination.
This post summarises preparation approaches commonly described by the rank holders (2025 exam) , based on their own feedback.
Selection and Restriction of Study Resources
A recurring theme among rank holders was the deliberate decision to limit the number of study resources used during preparation.
Dr Nizha (AIR 78)
“I only read this material to prepare, since I was also preparing for FRCPath and working full time.”
Organisation of Study by Topic and System
Most candidates described studying in topic-wise or system-wise blocks, completing one area before progressing to the next.
Dr Ananya (AIR 9)
“The topic-wise notes and MCQs were most helpful because you could read the topic concisely and solve MCQs immediately.”
Role of Question-Based Practice During Preparation
Question practice was used throughout the preparation period rather than being reserved for the final phase.
Dr Saswati (AIR 13)
“Your question bank is amazing. It really helped me a lot.”
Dr Ankita Pai (AIR 11)
“Thanks for the question bank- was helpful.”
Dr Khetmal (AIR 24)
“Pathology MCQ helped me a lot. The notes and MCQs are excellent.”
Incorporation of Updated Content
Some rank holders highlighted the importance of covering updated classifications and recent developments, particularly in hematopathology.
Dr Unnati (AIR 10)
“The focus on the latest WHO updates helped in answering newer questions.”
Revision of High-Volume and Low-Retention Information
Candidates identified certain areas as being more difficult to retain, including immunohistochemistry markers, molecular alterations, and tumour subtypes.
Dr Saumya Mathur (AIR 68)
“I studied the notes and flash cards thoroughly. It really helped my preparation.”
Dr Ananya (AIR 9)
“The flash card section is very high yielding.”
Use of Tests and Full-Length Mock Examinations
Tests were used primarily to revise multiple topics together and to practise sustained question-solving.
Dr Greeshma Gopinath (AIR 19)
“This was my first attempt, and I was already working as a fellow. The notes, tests, and videos helped me during preparation.”
Dr Ananya (AIR 9)
“The system-wise tests and grand tests are a must do.”
Dr Purnendu Das (AIR 23)
“Thank you — I got rank 23.”
