Difference between type I and type II endometrial carcinoma

TYPE I AND TYPE II ENDOMETRIAL CANCER—Endometrial carcinomas can be divided into two groups based on epidemiologic, clinical, morphologic, and genetic features:

TYPE I ENDOMETRIAL CANCER

  1. Younger patients: 40 to 60 years
  2. History of hyperestrinism, for example, chronic anovulation,
    estrogen replacement therapy.
  3. Associated with endometrial hyperplasia Grade I, nonmyoinvasive endometrioid carcinomas, usual type or main variants.
  4. ER–PR immunoreactivity
  5. Low Ki-67 labeling index
  6. Microsatellite instability, PTEN mutations, no p53 mutations
  7. Immunoreactivity of stromal cells for CD10
  8. Favorable prognosis following hysterectomy

TYPE II ENDOMETRIAL CANCER

  1. Older patients: 60 to 80 years
  2. No previous hyperestrinism
  3. Atrophic endometrium
  4. Often associated with a high-grade in situ lesion Grade III tumors, often of special types (serous, clear cell types),
  5. Lack of ER–PR  p53 mutations, no microsatellite instability
  6. Unfavorable prognosis following hysterectomy

Type I Endometrial carcinoma
Type II Endometrial carcinoma

Morphologic types: ENDOMETRIOID CARCINOMA
Morphologic types: SEROUS AND CLEAR CELL CARCINOMA
